HEY JUDE
“I’ll be skiing until the day I die”
Role: Director | Editor
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Description: Dodging barges on the Ohio River since the 70's, a Pittsburgh-native slalom skier whose age holds no boundaries for her love of the water continues her annual tradition of skiing every day she can.
This project was born out of the pandemic, stranded in Pittsburgh I found solace in skiing on the rivers of Pittsburgh with my friend Max and his grandmother Judy. Her skill and grace on a water ski simply stunned me; so much so I was inspired to go down to that dock every day to practice. So that one day I could ski like her. Over the course of that summer the idea that became this documentary formed in my mind just as a passion for skiing did. The next summer Max and I came back and started shooting Judy skiing and then edited what is now Hey Jude. In addition we got plenty of exciting footage of her long time skiing friend Bob, who didn’t end up making much of the final cut. So in addition I cut a tribute video to the one and only Bob Kelley. This was one of the biggest creative undertakings I’ve pursued as a director to date. It was nearly a 4 year journey from when I had the idea to make this documentary to when it came out. There were a lot of challenges and new learning experiences along the road and I am extremely grateful for all the people who were there to help along the way and most importantly to Judy for allowing me to tell her story.
